Seiko SKX Diver’s Complete Guide

The Seiko SKX watch line, introduced in 1996, encompasses a wide range of models characterized by the use of the automatic 7S26 caliber.
The series features watches designed for various purposes, ranging from the classic Seiko 5 to professional divers with a water resistance of 200 meters, and extending to sports models with 100 meters water resistance.

This guide focuses on certified diver watches, namely those in the SKX line that bear the “Diver’s” inscription on the dial and/or case back.
All other models, including sports versions with a 100-meter water resistance, are covered in the guide to all models of the Seiko SKX line.

Diver’s 200 m of the SKX line

In 1996 Seiko introduces the automatic 7S26 caliber with the SKX series, starting from the 7S26-0010, presented in various color combinations.
The relatively compact case, with its 38 mm diameter, places it in the mid-size diver category.

The following three models are considered the most popular of the entire SKX series, as well as the direct successors of the 7002-700x (SDS001, SDS003, and SDS005), going through the transitional 7002-7039 (SDS101 and SDS105), from which they inherit the Slim Turtle design.
A unique feature is the shape of the indices, which take on the typical style of the previous quartz Slim Turtles.
The sales success of the SKX007, SKX009, and SKX011 was such that production continued for more than 20 years since their release.

The three subsequent references take up the color configurations of the SKX007, SKX009, and SKX011, but make use of a 38 mm case similar to the 7S26-0010 of the previous SKX001, SKX003, SKX005, and SKX006 models.
While the SKX013 model was produced in large numbers and for many years, the Pepsi (SKX015) and orange (SKX017) versions were produced in limited quantities, making the originals hard to find.

Followed by the 7S26-7020 (SKX169 and SKX171), which takes the place of the 7002-7020 (SDS099).

The SKX173, intended for the North American market, is very similar to the SKX007 but features the indices always used on automatic Slim Turtles, and also differs in the position of the dot on the seconds hand.

The SKX175 appears virtually identical to the SKX009, but it is a reference for the North American market, distinguishable by the “mov’t Malaysia” or “mov’t Singapore” writing at the bottom of the dial.

In 1998 Seiko introduces two other divers from the SKX line that are reminiscent of the SKX007 and SKX009 styles but with some variations such as the shape of the indices.

The SKX403 and SKX405, introduced in 1999, are characterized by a titanium case.

In 1999 Seiko introduces two more SKX divers with titanium cases.

In 2000, the Seiko Monster models debut in the SKX line, with a black variant (SKX779) and an orange variant (SKX881).

In 2002, the SKXA33 reference is introduced, with a unique design characterized especially by the bezel and integrated bracelet.

Also in 2002, the SKXA35, nicknamed “Bumblebee” by enthusiasts, was launched on the North American market.

The following references are variants of the first-generation black and orange Monsters, intended for the North American market.

In 2004 Seiko introduces the divers now known as “Knight”, in three different colors: white, black, and orange.

The following two models, SKXA53 and SKXA55, are nicknamed “Bullet” by fans for their bullet-shaped indices.

The SKXA61 reference is the North American market version of the SKXA51.

The SKXA63 reference, for the North American market, revisits the shapes of the SKX169 and SKX171 in a new color configuration.

The last diver in the SKX line, with reference SKXA65 (7S26-04N0), is a limited edition of 2999 pieces exclusive to Thailand, featuring a curious design with elements borrowed from other models, such as the Seiko Sumo style hands.
